UNHCR depends almost entirely on voluntary contributions to fund their operations. Most of UNHCR’s programmes are funded by governments, but partnerships with corporations, foundations and private individuals also constitute important sources of funding. We work all year round to raise funds for our programmes and address new emergencies as they occur.
In a complex environment with fast shifting needs and priorities, we depend on donors to provide contributions that can be allocated as flexibly as possible. These allow us to direct funds where they are most needed, providing protection, shelter, water, health, education and other essentials to millions of refugees, asylum-seekers and stateless and internally displaced people around the world.
The number of people fleeing war, persecution and conflict reaches the highest level in recent history. Partnerships from private sector and contributions from both individual and corporate engagements are essential for UNHCR to provide life-saving support to refugees, stateless people and displaced people worldwide.
UNHCR face to face fundraising teams are committed to promote the strength and courage of refugees, asylum seekers and stateless people. UNHCR and Tulus Digital Sdn Bhd have launched a partnership to strengthen support for refugees in Malaysia.

UNHCR Malaysia ventured into Islamic Philanthropy since 2019 as a means to support refugees financially both locally and globally. Sources of funding include the distribution of Zakat, Sadaqah and Purification funds all of which are focused to help refugees have better access to get quality education, healthcare and well-being. The initiative hopes to connect Islamic Social Financial (ISF) institutions to UNHCR operations that are eligible for these types of funds.
