Monitoring the Forcible Transfer of Asylum-Seekers by Australia

Since 2013, Australia has forcibly transferred 3,172 asylum-seekers to other countries.

Australia is currently responsible for the protection and well-being of over 840 people in Papua New Guinea and Nauru. The majority have been recognized as refugees, in need of protection and the opportunity to build a new life in a different country. UNHCR has repeatedly called for their immediate transfer to a safe location and for long-term solutions.
